This is a water process in which no chemicals have been used and is all naturally decaffeinated.
We take our decaf seriously. This installment on our decaf program is a great example of what decaf coffee can be like. Coming from the rich and fertile soil of Sierra Nevada and Serrania del Perija of Colombia, this fair trade and organic coffee’s flavour is maintained by undergoing the mountain water decaffeination process. This involves being soaked in water and decaffeinated through osmosis*. The water is made up of organic flavour solubles extracted from a sample of the same coffee and allows for only the removal of caffeine in the process, leaving the flavour intact. Most importantly this coffee is associated with Cafe Femenino which is a gender equality program committed to supporting women producers.
*Osmosis is a special kind of diffusion that only involves water moving through a selectively permeable membrane. ... Osmosis is when water mixes with the solute particles. For the cell, water passes through a selectively permeable membrane which is the cell membrane.
